Councillors, Ward Members sensitized on NULM

Imphal, May 25 2014:
A one-day sensitization programme on National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) for Councillors, Ward Development Committee members and the officials of Mayang Imphal Municipal Council was held at Mayang Imphal today.
Organized by Mayang Imphal Municipal Council (MIMC) and Green Foundation, the programme was attended by Chairperson of MIMC Th Rajmohon Meitei as Chief Guest and Vice-Chairperson of MIMC Leina Bibi as President, while councillors of MIMC W Somen, W Tomba, Th Pratap, S Hemchandra, Ksh Memcha, Md Safiuallah, N Indira, N Premolata, A Memthoi, A Radhamani and Nurejan Bibi attdended as Guests of Honour.
O Biren, Retired Director of Economics and Statistics, Manipur and Dr Chinglen Meisnam, Associate Professor of Manipur University were resource persons of the programme.
Dr Chinglen said that the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) is an improved version of the Swarna Jayanti Shahari Yojna (SJSRY), a poverty alleviation programme for the urban poor which has covered the homeless and street vendors as beneficiaries.
A special provision has been made for the funding of all-weather 24/7 shelters with all essential facilities for the urban homeless, while upto 5 percent of the NULM budget has been earmarked to provide support to urban vendors by way of skill upgradation and development of vendor markets, Dr Chinglen added.
