ATSUM-T ready to resume stir

With the state government failing to fulfill the agreement made with All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM-Tombing), the latter has chalked out strategies to resort to stern agitation any day.
The agreement between ATSUM and Manipur government was signed on November 25, 2013.Accordingly, the Government agreed to fulfill the former's demands within six months, the deadline of which ends today (May 25) .
ATSUM general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang told some media persons that since the state government of Manipur failed to keep its commitment, "we have no other option but to resort to a series of agitation any day from now" .
Vareiyo recalled that, "The chief minister told us on November 25 last year that if the state government fails to implement the agreement we can resort to whatever form of agitation we like" .
The demands of ATSUM included filling up the vacancies in educational institutions in the hill districts , to regularize or absorb the teachers on contract basis in adherence, development of infrastructures of schools in the hill areas; setting up of B.ED centres in all six (6) Autonomous District Council, reservation of seats for tribal in Manipur University, appointment of ZEO through MPSC combined competition examination to avoid posting of unqualified officers in each Zone, sanctioning of adequate funds for implementation of centrally sponsored flagship programme under NRHM, etc.
