Expres-sing that time has come for theatre advocates to introspect status of theatre movement in Manipur, JN Manipur Dance Academy director L Upendra said sustaining the movement entails chalking up specific and effective strategies based on expanding popularity of the art form.
speaking as the chief guest at the premiere show of a play entitled 'Pana Kangjei', Upen-dra said along with intros- pecting status of the theatre movement in Manipur equal importance should be on working out long term plans to keep the theatre movement alive and vibrant.
Be it theatre or traditional dance forms creativity of the artistes is an essential quality to make Manipuri art forms compatible with the global theatre fraternity, said the Director who also noted that vision of Manipuri forefathers to enrich traditional theatre movement has been one of the factors for Manipuri art forms occupying a reputable position in the national as well as international theatre scenario.
Briefing the audience on the play staged today at Manipur Dramatic Union hall, 'Pana Kangjei' director S Kishoremala conveyed that the play is a concept of Gurumayum Naran Sharma based on the Khamba-Thoibi folk-tale penned by Sarangthem Bormani.
The play is a production of MDU under the financial assistance of Sangeet Natak Akademi.
