Imphal, September 14, 2010:
Contending that no positive response has been provided by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to its earlier proposal, the Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas, Manipur has decided to go ahead with the 48 hours general strike agitation from midnight of september 15. A COPTAM release issued by its Information and Publicity Department reminded that the CM was on September 7 urged to favourably consider and do the needful for restoration of original hill districts boundary as well as devolve adequate power to ADCs, and other relevant demands but the proposals failed to evoke positive response from the Govt till date, thereby constraining the Committee to impose the general strike.
While fervently appealing to the general public and leaders of tribal organisation to actively extend support to the agitation rather than seek movement 'Pass', COPTAM also announced exemption of medical services and media from the purview of the general strike.
It also declared that more intense agitation will follow the general strike till the demands are fulfilled.
