In a swift coordinated action, a combined force rescued the lady doctor and her staff nurse from the clutches of their abductors within 24-hour of their kidnapping.
The kidnappers however fled to evade arrest.
The lady doctor, RK Joymati and her staff nurse, Kabita Devi, were kidnapped by three activists of KCP-Mobile Task Force who took them away by guile from Mekola Primary Health Centre under Nambol Police Station of Bishnupur police yesterday.
A combined force of Imphal West Police Commandos, Bishnupur Police Commandos, troops of 12 Maratha Li and 39 Assam Rifles rescued them around 11.30 am from a hut on the shore of Loktak at Wahengkhuman Santipur village under Wangoi police station.
The combined force swung into action on information of the kidnapping and the doctor and nurse were rescued following search operations at Kabo Wakching, Waheng Khuman, Nambol Thiyam, Shamusangha, Santipur, Ishok, Yangoi Khongbal from early morning.
Police said that the operations were launched by a combined force under the supervision of SP Jayentakumar of Bishnupur district and additional SP, Md Ishak Shah.
They found the doctor and nurse in a hut in Santipur village.
On seeing the security force entering the area, the armed cadres of KCP (MTF) fled to the lake side.
After evacuating the two ladies from the hut, security personnel rushed towards the escaping armed militants.
However, they could not nab any of the kidnappers who escaped taking advantage of the thick bushes on the lakeshore, police said.
In a further search in the area rice, dal and other items of the activists were found and destroyed by the security forces.
No harassments were given the lady doctor and nurse disclosed and added food was served to them.
Joymati said on seeing the security forces entering the area, the armed cadres fled leaving behind them.
The security forces handed the two to the Nambol police where their statements were recorded for further investigation.
On the other hand, employees of the state health services staged a sit-in protest at its head office at Lamphel, registering strong disapproval to the kidnapping.
They strongly condemned the manner and ruse the kidnappers used to abduct the doctor and nurse.
They lamented that doctors in the service of the people may lose faith to any emergency calls.
