Heingang Police today arrested two persons engaged in abducting non Manipuris for ransom.
They were identified as Thokchom Roben (30) son of Manijao of Khurai Thangjam Leikai and Takhelmayum Joykumar (30) son of Lukhoi of the same locality.
Roben is a youth waiting to join the state security force after he was recruited to teh IRB and is currently running a restaurant at Ghari while Joykumar is a tailor master working at a tailoring house at Lamlong Bazar.
They were arrested charged of kidnapping non-Manipuris for ransom at about 8.10 am while travelling in a Jeep, MN05-5482, which was intercepted incidentally by a team of Heingang police led by their OC on their way to Mantirpukhri.
The police stopped to ask why the vehicle it was being parked in the middle of the road with just one non-Manipur in the vehicle.
On further inquiry to the non-Manipuri, Mandip Singh (28) of Mantripuhkri, police came to know that he was being abducted by Roben and Joykumar.
Based on the disclosure made by the non-Manipuri, police conducted a body search on the abductors and recovered a toy gun from their possession.
They used the toy gun to abduct the non-Manipuris from Mantripukhri.
According to the non-Manipuri who runs a grocery shop at Mantripukhri, the duo asked him at gun point to drop them at Koirengei.
On his plea two salesmen accompanied him.
The two salesmen were forced to alight from the vehicle after they received a phone call one their mobile phone.
An argument ensued during which the police arrived there.
On further interrogation, police revealed that the toy gun was obtained by the duo from a PULF activist.
They had been engaging in abducting for ransom the last four months.
During this time, they admitted abducting a non-Manipuri barbar from Lamphel Super Market for a ransom amount of Rs 3000.
