As many as 11579 illiterate women in Tamenglong district will be benefited under SAAKSHAR Bharat Mission 2010- 12 under Adult Education Department, Tamenglong.
Functional literacy will be imparted to adults from 15 years and above.
This was stated by K Dorendro Singh, Project Officer, Adult Education Department Tamenglong during the closing function of 'Adults Learner Week' organised by District Literacy Samiti, Tamenglong today at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong with Joseph Pauline, ADM Tamenglong, DM Nganthonang, Ex- (first) Chairman Autonomous District Council Tamenglong and Lungniliu Gangmei, President Zeliangrong Women Union Tamenglong as chief guest, president and guests of honour of the function.
According to surveyor of the District Literacy Samiti Tamenglong 17184 illiterate male adults in the district and as many as 11579 illiterate women would benefit under Saakshar Bharat Mission stated K Dorendro Singh, PO Adult Education Department, Tamenglong.
He said as many as 112 Prerak and 1445 volunteer teachers have been appointed for the mission.
This mission was taken up after the completion of total literacy campaign in the district for adult in the age group of 15 years and above.
'Saakshar Bharat Mission can be a life time opportunity for all illiterates in the district, be involve, participate and to extendfull cooperation', Dorendro said.
Speaking as chief guest, Joseph Pauline, ADM Tamenglong said that the government of India has renamed the National Literacy Mission to National Female Literacy Mission and literacy programme as Saakshar Bharat (literate India) to empower the women to attain female literacy to become a force multiplier in the effort of the government to give an impetus to ensure socio- economic development.
Toempower women this campaign must be take seriously and let Saakshar Bharat Mission change into Saakshar Tamenglong', Joseph said.
DM Nganthonang, Ex- chairman ADC and Lungniliu Gangmei, President of Zeliangrong Women Union Tamenglong also spoke on the occasion.
They urged on the volunteer teachers and District Literacy Samitis to implement the mission in a proper way so as to uplift the poor and the needy who cannot afford to get a formal education.
'If there is a sound family, there will be a sound society and if there is a sound society surely there will be a good and strong nation, too', Lungniliu Gangmei said.
