IBSD celebrates 22nd Foundation Day

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal today celebrated its 22nd Foundation Day by organising a seminar on "Synergizing Research Verticals to promote Bioeconomy from Bioresources of NER" .
IBSD was established on April 26, 2001 at Imphal, Manipur, the only institute of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India in North Eastern Region working with the mission of "Bioresources development and their sustainable use through biotechnological interventions for the socio-economic growth of the North East region", said a release issued by IBSD.

The programme was attended by Prof N Lokendra Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Manipur University, Imphal; Dr Sanjay Mishra, senior advisor Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, New Delhi; Dr Sanjay Dinkar Sawant, Director, Regional Institute of Paramedical and Nursing Sciences (RIPANS), Mizoram; Prof H Tombi Singh, Vice Chancellor, University of Bhagavata Culture; Dr Hanashiro Yoshihiro, Okinawa Churashima Foundation, Japan; Tamal Kanti Mukherjee, advocate Calcutta High Court; Dr Zavei Hiese, Director, NESTEC, Nagaland; Prof G A Shanitibala Devi, former Dean, School of Life Sciences, Manipur University; and Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director, IBSD.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee highlighted the scientific progress and outreach activities performed by the institute.
He also elaborated on the new initiatives of IBSD including Phytopharmaceutical Mission, Himalayan Bioresources Mission, Synergy Mission and Network Pharmacology for the development of bioresources of the region.
Prof N Lokendra Singh extended his gratitude to IBSD for working on traditional medicines and translational research for the development of products/ processes.
Dr Sanjay Mishra appreciated the various research activities taken up by the institute for the development of bioresources of NER.
He also highlighted various challenges and opportunities in bioresources research for adaptation and mitigation of climate change.
The inaugural programme was followed by lab visits for the students form different schools and colleges of Manipur.
Scientists, scholars and staff of IBSD, Imphal also took part in the programme.
