Ten-day Yoga course concludes at DMU

A 10-day Yoga course organised by Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari, Imphal branch under the theme 'Yoga: The Way of Life', concluded at DM University here on Wednesday.
Altogether 20 Yoga practitioners from different places of Imphal and Thoubal areas attended the course, which had daily classes of 1.15 hour covering both concepts and practical of Yogasana.
The concept part consisted of discourses and discussion/interactions on yoga theories such as introduction of yoga, definitions from different scriptures, happiness analysis, four 'marg' (ways) of yoga defined by Swami Vivekananda, 'Astangayoga', brief introduction on the life and message of Swami Vivekananda and about Vivekananda Kendra - a spiritually oriented service mission.
Uro-surgeon Dr Rajendra and DM University physics department head Dr L Rajen attended the closing ceremony as chief guest and president respectively.
They also participated in the yoga course.
Certificates were distributed to the participants at the closing ceremony.
Dr Rajendra elaborated on the importance of yoga in contemporary society ahd also demonstrated Neti Kriya - a Yogic Kriya, which is beneficial in treating sinus, and some other respiratory ailments.
He emphasised on Yoga over gym exercises stating that yoga does not need expensive equipment.
Dr L Rajen, in his presidential remark, explained about integration of body, mind and soul in Yoga.
He said that Yoga is expansion of self to family, community, society, nation and whole creation, and most importantly a way of life.
Former principal of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Amliang (Arunachal Pradesh) BK Singh and senior teacher of Manipur Public School, Imphal M Chandrababu also attended the valedictory ceremony wherein a group song was presented by former teacher of VKV Amliang, Nalini and young participants of the course.
The institution is also planning to organise similar programmes at different parts of Imphal.
