Imphal, October 08 2011:
In connection with the death of an expectant woman last night, JNIMS have been accused of dereliction and negligence of their assigned duties.
The deceased has been identified as Ningthoujam (N) Laishram (O) Binashakhi (37) w/o Laishram Yaiskul of Heirok Part II Bazar.
According to family members of the deceased woman, Binashakhi was examined by Dr Netaji in the OPD of JNIMS of October 6 .
As per the advice of the doctor, Binashakhi was admitted to JNIMS on the same day.
Dr Netaji again examined Binashakhi in the afternoon of October 7 during his usual round of the ward.
But the health condition of the expectant mother suddenly became complicated at about 8 pm, and the doctor on duty was informed immediately.
However, the doctor failed to respond to the emergency situation leading further deterioration in Binashakhi's medical condition.
Just as Binashakhi was taken into operation theatre, she failed to respond to the treatment and expired.
Alleging that Binashakhi died due to negligence on the part of the attending JNIMS doctors, a public meeting was held today following which a joint action committee was constituted.
Subsequently, the JAC has resolved to demand a judicial enquiry into the case of Binashakhi's death at JNIMS.
The other demand of the JAC is establishment of a medical professional ethics commission.
The JAC further resolved to launch various forms of agitation if the two demands are not fulfilled by October 11 .
