Foundation stones laid for three water supply schemes at Bishnupur

The Public Health Engineering Minister TN Haokip laid foundation stones of three water supply schemes at various places of Bishnupur district today.
The schemes are to be implemented under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources and Special Development fund.
Delivering that key-note address of a function at Thanga PHED chief Engineer M Imomacha said the Rs 531.26 lakh Augmentation of Water Supply Scheme at Mahadeva Chingthak is to be developed under NLCPR and targeted for completion next year.
The scheme on completion will provide drinking water to Oinam, Salam, Samukon, Chingkha, Heisnam, Ngaram, Tongbram, Khunjim, Moirangthem and Khoirom villages under Thanga assembly constituency.
A second water supply scheme also under NLCPR funding will be developed at Keibul Lamjao and is aimed for covering residential pockets of Moirang Khunou and Moirang Chandrapur.
The scheme targeted for completion in 2012 will be taken up at a total cost of Rs 2.5 crores while another similar project at Moirang Mamang Ching is set for completion next year and will be developed at Rs 9.9 crores.
As chief guest laying the foundation stones, TN Haokip noted that inspite of close proximity to the region's largest water body people of Thanga and Moirang have been facing chronic problem of hygienic drinking water.
conceding that continuous siltation has polluted the Loktak Lake, the Minister expressed confidence that after completion of the water supply schemes people living in the periphery of the Lake will have access to safe
drinking water.
Emphasising on the need to restore Loktak Lake to its pristine glory, TN Haokip said on completion of the ongoing clearance of floating biomass from one of Eastern India's largest water bodies tourism projects could be developed.
Among others MLAs T Mangibabu (Thanga) and M Prithviraj Singh (Moirang) were also present at the occasion.
