Imphal, October 08 2011:
While the current norm of taking the oath by accused persons/witnesses in the Court room (dock) is on the Gita, the Bible or the Quran, according to the religious belief of the individual concerned, the day will not be far off when the oath can be taken on the Puya if an ongoing process to compile the Holy Book of Sanamahism materialises.
According to some scholars of Sanamahi Temple Board hectic process is underway to finalise compiling the Holy Book of Sanamahism (Sanamahi Laining Puya) following a decision at a meeting of the Board on August 31 for setting up an Expert Committee on the matter.
However, there is no confirmation on composition of the Expert Committee, conceded the scholars while speaking to The sangai Express.
It is also informed that after completing the process a recommendation would be sent for the Government's approval on the introduction of Puya as a holy book for taking the oath in the Court.

Commenting on the issue, Advocate Th Jugindro said till now the common practice for an accused person in the Court is to pledge on Geeta, Bible or Quran irrespective of the individual belonging to the Meitei community or following Sanamahi faith.
The Advocate, nevertheless, did not rule out usage of Puya in the future if at all a recommendation is received at the Court from the Government of Manipur.
