UNLF cadre surrenders

Imphal, October 08 2011:
An active cadre of the proscribed UG group UNLF today surrendered to DIG Angom Shamu of the 116th BSF posted at Loktak in Bishnupur district along with a 7.65 mm pistol and five live rounds.
BSF officials however refused to disclose the identity of the surrendered cadre on security ground of his personal life.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG Angom Shamu said that the cadre was born in a poor family and he joined UNLF in January, 2004 and remained as a Lance Corporal for five years.
The 116th BSF arranged the surrendered ceremony under Inspector Zinta Meitei to bring him in the mainstream as his family developed some unavoidable problems.
He also assured possible cooperation from the side of Centre and state government.
The surrendered cadre told reporters that he joined UNLF with a desire to sacrifice for a sovereign Manipur.
But he decided to surrender to the BSF since he could not stay as a UG cadre in Myanmar.
He also said that most of the base camps of UNLF in the forests of Myanmar have been destroyed.
Meanwhile, troops of 6/8 Gorkha Rifles under Logtak Brigade of Red Shield Division reportedly apprehended one UNLF cadre on 08 Oct 2011 in Oinam Khunau of Bishenpur district.
According to a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles, the apprehendee revealed his identity as SS L/Cpl Loktobum Naba Singh @ Kulla s/o Ibobishok, age 40 yrs, r/o Oinam Khunau, Dist Bishenpur, according to a.The apprehendee was handed over to the Bishenpur Police Station.
