MLA Wungnaoshang Keishing passes away
Will work to realize W keishing's dream of Phungyar district: CM

MLA of Phungyar a/c Wungnaoshung Keishing, who recently rejoined the MSCP with much fan fare passed away suddenly today at around 6:30 of a heart attack.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
MLA Wungnaosung Keishing was suffering from liver cirrhosis and had undergone medical treatment outside the state.
He came back having recovered from his ailment and had also been maintaining a prescribed diet.
A few days back he had complained of a serious headache and had decided to consult a doctor tomorrow.
But this morning he was found unconscious on his bed and was rushed to JNIMS.
He was later pronounced dead by the doctor, of a heart attack, said his wife Ningwomla Keishing fighting her tears.
Hearing of the sudden demise of the MLA, Chief Minister O Ibobi, his Council of Ministers, Speaker Hemochandra and MPCC President, Gaikhangam rushed to his official quarter at Babupara and shared the sorrow of the family.
A team led by the President of MSCP, Y Mani also arrived at the quarter and shared the family's grief.
Condoling the MLA's death, the Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the sudden demise of MLA W Keishing is a huge set back for the whole society.
It is great loss not only for the people of Phungyar a/c but also for the people of the state.
He further said that his relentless efforts for the conversion of Phungyar into a full fledged district was quite reasonable considering the problems faced by the people of Phungyar in trying to reach Ukhrul district headquarters.
Attempts will be made to materialise his endeavor for a district of Phungyar after the reports of the district Re-organisation of Administrative and Police Boundaries (CRAPB) arrives.
It may be mentioned that MLA W Keishing had been demanding a full fledged district of Phungyar to bring about a complete change in the area where the development process has hardly reached the people.
He had also pointed out that administration process hardly reached the area because of its distance from the district head quarters.
He had also been receiving threats from the NSCN (IM) for this stand of his.
He was even ambushed by the NSCN (IM) cadres at Riha village on his way to Imphal after attending a convention on HIV&AIDS at Riha village, organized by the Manipur Legislator's Forum on HIV and AIDS.
In the incident 8 MR personnel and a civilian was killed, but fortunately MLA W Keishing escaped unhurt.
As a result of the various threats on the life of MLA Wungnaoshung Keishing, his political conference was organized at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, with tight security arrangements, where around 4500 people from Phungyar a/c attended and where he formally joined the MSCP.
Keishing started his political career as a social worker and contested in the 8th Manipur Legislative Assembly election from Phungyar a/c under MSCP and came out victorious.
He was the Minister of State (in charge), Fisheries and Government Press in 2002-03.Then in 2003-04 he was the Minister of Excise and Jail Administration and then for the Committee of Public Grievances in 2006 .
In the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly election he contested as an independent candidate and was elected from Phungyar assembly constituency in 2007 with the backing of the United Naga Council (UNC) .
MLA Wungnaosung Keishing was also the leader of various CSOs and later became an active member of the INC in 1978.He did some contract works of PWD and later on became a first class contractor.
Later coming entered the political arena and became a member of the Phungyar Block Development Committee from 1986-89.He was also in charge of the finance section of Block Congress Committee.
He went on to be the Vice President of the Manipur Congress Youth Congress Committee from 1995-1998 and General Secretary of the MPCC from 1998-2002 .
