Literature fest begins at JNMDA

Festival of Literature 2011 organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) has kick started at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy today.
Eminent poet and former Editor of Sahitya Akademi, Subodh Sarkar, eminent writer and Chairman of Festival Committee N Kunjamohon Singh and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad President Prof N Tombi Singh were the chief guest, president and guest of honour of the opening function of the two-day event respectively.
Giving his keynote address, MSKA Secretary S Vedeshwar Sharma said that the long desired dream of the Akademi to organise a literature festival has been fulfilled.
Since its inception in 1972, Manipur State Kala Akademi (MSKA) has been shouldering the responsibility of preservation and promotion of dance, music, theatre, literature, fine arts etc of the State, he said and added that MSKA has been organising festivals of shumang leela, dance, drama and music every year.
Apart from it, art exhibitions are also regular annual events of the Akademi, he added.
The Secretary expressed optimism hope that the festival of literature would now become an event which would be organised every year.
Speaking on Manipuri language, the Secretary noted that the language has its unique character, identity and status of its own.
Subodh Sarkar while speaking at the function said, Manipuri literature is profound in nature.
Mentioning on the close relation of human civilization with literature, Subodh Sarkar pointed out that it can cross all boundaries.
Prof N Tombi while speaking at the function expressed his opinion of making literature more interesting and attention grabbing to the readers.
Prof N Tombi said that it is useless to have literature which does not have readers.
N Kunjamohon said that any writer who is not able to take the society to right direction must be rated as the one who does not have the knowledge of literature.
A bi-annual journal of Manipuri literature was also released in the function .
