34 Kgs of Opium seized

Imphal, March 02 2022:
A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) arrested one Salam Khogen (36) along with 34 kg of opium from Khurai Ningthoubung at around 8.30 am today.
According to reliable information the team was conducting random and surprise frisking at Lamlai area as a part of its drive against trafficking of illicit drugs and other contraband items during the State Assembly election 2022, under supervision of SP NAB K Meghachandra.
During checking at Lamlai area one vehicle (a Toyota Fortuner) with a flag post without any escort was seen coming towards Lamlai in a suspicious manner from Ukhrul side and it was signalled to stop but instead of stopping the vehicle sped away.
The NAB team then chased the vehicle and finally managed to stop the fleeing vehicle at Khurai Ningthoubung and on spot verification the driver was identified as Salam Khogen Singh (36) s/o S Bobi Singh of Kongpal Chingangbam Leikai, Imphal East.
On checking the vehicle, 34 packets (weighing 34 kilograms approx) of opium was found in the back of the vehicle in two bags.
During preliminary interrogation, Salam Khogen Singh revealed that he is an inter-State drug trafficker and had indulged in trafficking of illicit drugs a number of times before.
Today he had picked up the packets containing opium from a person from Molnom and Songphel hill range area and came towards Imphal to hand it over to another agent for further transportation to Guwahati.
Incidentally the vehicle is registered in the name of an MLA.
A case has been registered at NAB PS for investigation.
