In another incident of post-poll violence, a woman was injured when a scuffle broke out between two groups at Kumbi Municipal Council Ward No 1 on Tuesday night around 11 pm.
NPP workers allegedly caused damage to the BJP posters and flags hoisted at the BJP 29/12 B1 polling office set up at the residence of Wahengbam Ram in Kumbi AC.
A scuffle broke out in connection with this incident in which Wahengbam Ram's wife was subsequently injured as she attempted to break up the fight.
Addressing a press conference held at the residence of W Ram on Wednesday, Haojam Nenil Singh, a BJP worker, alleged that NPP workers from Kumbi Municipal Council Ward No 9 led by M Shobha and Kh Mangijao vandalised the BJP polling office carrying sticks and other dangerous weapons yesterday night.
Following the attack, Wahengbam Ram and the NPP workers got into a heated argument and the former's wife was injured as the NPP workers allegedly assaulted her as she tried to break up their argument, he stated.
Hearing the commotion, people of the locality emerged from their homes to investigate.
At this juncture, the NPP workers fled into the night, he added.
It may be noted that Wahengbam Ram's wife was hospitalized to receive treatment for her injury.
Haojam Nenil Singh urged the authorities concerned to take up appropriate action against the perpetrators responsible for this incident.
He further appealed to the people of Kumbi AC to stay alert in order to ensure that such undemocratic incidents do not happen in the future.
