The flag hoisting ceremony of Lilong AC Janata Dal (United) candidate Mohd Abdul Nasir was organised by Abdul Nasir Central Election Committee at the candidate's residence in'Lilong on Wednesday.
Taking part at an election meeting of Abdul Nasir held after the flag hoisting ceremony, Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan has stated that no political party will be able to get absolute majority in the ongoing polls.
As part of the ceremony, the ritual of exchanging items was done, followed by a public meeting held at Mamang Loukol near Lilong Tairen Makhong ITI Road.
Addressing the meeting, Joykisan, who contested as JD(U) candidate from Thangmeiband AC in the first phase of the election, contended that no political party will be able to get absolute majority, with each party unable to cross the 26-seat mark.
JD (U), however, will win at least 20 seats and take a huge role in the formation of the new government, he added.
"Just as Bihar has emerged from the infamy and desperate situation left behind by the then Laloo Prasad government, under the leadership of JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, Lilong will also undergo huge changes and develops significantly, If JD(U) candidate Abdul Nasir is elected as its representative," he remarked.
JD(U) national general secretary and NE in-charge Afaque Ahmad Khan, who also attended the ceremony, said that the party Would set up Ima markets at different places for the Meitei-Pangal community, hostels for girls of minority community in each district, open a Musafir Khana and prioritise key development projects, if elected to power.
Lilong JD (U) candidate Abdul Nasir said that he would repair the 13km stretch of Laiphrakpam, Oinam, Atoukhong and Leihaokhong route and donate one-third of his monthly salary for the welfare of Meitei community, who happens to be minority in the constituency.
He then urged all to keep religion separated from politics and stop spreading misinformation in this regard.
As part of the programme, BJP Lilong Mandal president Md Ahamed Ali and other office bearers of the Mandal extended support to Abdul Nasir and formally joined JD (U) on Wednesday.
They were welcomed into the party with presentation of stole and cap.
The ceremony was also attended by JD(U) National general secretary Aneel Hege (RO), JD(U) State Unit president Hangkhanpao Taithul and local leaders of state, district and constituency level, along with various senior leaders.
People from 44 polling stations also participated in the ceremony.
