Thoubal, March 02 2022:
A gang of 20 people led by one Laishram Birban of Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai, who claimed to be a worker of BJP candidate from Khangabok assembly constituency, allegedly vandalised three houses and a car of JDU workers at Khangabok Sorok Wangma of Khangabok AC along with threatening of dire consequences if they come out to vote.
The incident reportedly took place around midnight of Tuesday.
The houses that got vandalised during the attack belonged to Thokchom Biren of Khangabok Bazar, M Ibemhal Devi and Kh Shyamo, both from Khangabok Sorok Wangma.
A car that was parked at the garage of M Ibemhal was also vandalised by the attackers.
Condemning the attack, a sit-in protest was held at Khangabok Sorok Wangma by womenfolk of the locality on Wednesday.
Speaking at the protest site, one of the victims, Thokchom Sundari recalled that an armed mob came around midnight and banged at her residential gate.
On seeing the attackers, they locked themselves inside the house but the attackers broke down the gate and started damaging the doors, windows and threatened them at gunpoint not to come out on the day of voting, she recounted.
Th Sundari lamented that the gang of BJP candidate Kh Menjor Mangang has been terrorising supporters of other political parties and they are living in fear every night.
They had filed an FIR against earlier attacks, but so far no action has been taken up by the police.
On the other hand, one Moirangthem Luxmi termed as regrettable that a candidate who is also a founder of a school thinks that election can be won through use of muscle power.
Similarly, Kh Promila claimed that her house was targeted because her daughter refused to give her vote to BJP candidate after his workers offered them Rs 5000 for her postal ballot.
