Imphal, March 02 2022:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) election observer Jairam Ramesh has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of taking the support of proscribed militant outfits in its desperate bid to win the assembly election.
Addressing a press meet held at Congress Bhawan here on Wednesday, Jairam Ramesh said that the so-called double engine BJP government is the biggest liar in existence.
Both the PM and the home minister mentioned three lies of Congress i.e., Congress supported insurgents, caused the drug menace in the state and divided the hills and valley.
Jairam Ramesh refuted the lies, stating tfiat the BJP government took support of proscribed KNO to hinder democratic election in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts.
Second, BJP has given the party tickets to drug cartel members and one can only wonder how it plans to solve the drug issues in the state, considering the fact that the union home minister has not taken up any'steps to stop the inter-border drug trade.
Thirdly, Congress set up the Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) to address the issues of the hill.
However, BJP has been preventing conduct of election to the ADCs over the past few years.
"Congress took steps to protect the integrity of the state, while BJP has been working to destroy it.
Congress handed over Kangla Fort to the people, while the present the PM and the union home minister have been making promises upon promises for making Manipur self-sustainable, and deliver urea and other products without fail, but none of these promises have been fulfilled so far," he remarked.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Devbratta recalled that the party had appealed to the authority concerned not to release the 6 people arrested in connection with death of student N Rohit in a pre-poll violent incident that took place in Heirok AC, so as to ensure a free and fair election.
However, police released the 6 people on Tuesday when their bail hearing was supposed to be conducted on Thursday.
The spokesperson questioned on what basis the 6 accused people were released, while condemning the act of preponing the case.
It was hoped that the polls in Heirok AC would be held peacefully.
However, the preponing of the case and the subsequent release of the six accused people has made it worrisome, he remarked.
