Imphal, February 23 2023:
If no steps are taken up to make Ramrei Water Supply Scheme fully operational, it may become a white elephant, said MLA Ram Muivah today.
He said this while raising several issues related to water supply and electricity situation Ukhrul people are facing during the Assembly Session.
Even as the people of Ukhrul are reportedly reeling under acute shortage of water, the PHE Minister's reply to a query raised about the operationality of the Ramrei Water Supply Scheme has turned out to be "contradictory" to the actual ground condition, said the Ukhrul MLA.
On water supply schemes in Ukhrul, Ram Muivah asked the PHE Minister, L Susindro whether the Ramrei Water Supply is yet to be operational and steps taken up to make it operational.
Replying to this, the PHE Minister said the Ramrei Water Supply Scheme is operational and as such steps to make it operational doesn't arise.
Countering the reply of the Minister, MLA Ram Muivah said though the Ramrei Water Supply Scheme was inaugurated in January 2021, the ground reality contradicts the reply of the Minister.
While the scheme is supposed to supply water to around 22 villages, only 2-3 villages are getting water, he said.
During the last Session held in July-August, the PHE Minister had assured that the water supply scheme would be made fully operational within the current financial year, Ram Muivah said appealing the Minister to take up necessary steps.
If no steps are taken up, the Ramrei Water Supply Scheme may become a white elephant, he added.
On electricity, MLA Ram Muivah asked the Power Minister whether it is true that 5 villages in Ukhrul district namely Ronshak, Sahamphung sub-division HQs, Roni, Khayang and Phungtha are yet to be electrified.
Replying, the Power Minister said the 5 villages have been electrified through off-Grid mode by solar photovoltaic module by MANIREDA since 2017-18 .
As these villages are remotely located, they are being planned to be electrified through Grid mode, once the planned 33/11 KV Sahamphung sub-station is taken up, completed and energized.
These villages have been included in the DPR for a new upcoming scheme namely "Electrification of Left-Out-Households Under RDSS" by the MSPDCL.
The scheme is yet to be sanctioned by the Ministry of Power, said the Power Minister .
