Kakching, February 23 2023:
Joint Non-Government Voluntary Organisation (JNGVO), Kakching has demanded the government to keep land records of villages of the district at the district headquarters itself.
Addressing a press meet at its office premises here on Wednesday, JNGVO president Ksh Chhatradhari said that land records of Kakching Khullen, Mayeng Lamjao, Langmeidong, Lamjao, Nungu Sanamahi, Pallel and Kangoi were collected from the district headquarters and taken to the office of the directorate of settlement and land records at Lamphelpat in Imphal West district earlier.
As a result, people of the villages are facing immense hardships as they have to go to Imphal to get the documents.
In this regard, JNGVO had submitted memorandum to the government twice in August and September last year.
They also organised a sit-in protest at Kakching Keithel on September 18 last year demanding the government to keep the mother copies of the land records at the district headquarters.
However, the government has not taken up any positive steps in this regard.
Amid the public discontentment, land records of Kakching Wairi, Hiyanglam, Lousipat and Kharungpat were also reportedly taken to Lamphelpat on February 20, he said, adding that the latest act has infuriated the Kakching denizens.
Demanding the authority concerned to keep the land records at the district headquarters so that the denizens can enjoy the benefits of having a separate revenue district, he suggested that the government transfer any official posted in the district if they could not discharge duty in their place of posting.
He also warned of launching democratic forms of protest if the department does not bring back the land records at the district headquarters within five days.
