Thoubal, February 23 2023:
District Panchayat Parishad, Thoubal (DPPT) under aegis of Manipur State Panchayat Parishad on Thursday took out a rally demanding release of pending liabilities fund for MGNAREGA for the financial year 2021-22, conduct of the 6th general Panchayat election and to devolve power to the panchayat at the earliest.
After numerous pradhans and members of District Panchayat Parishad along with people gathered at Lala Mandop located at Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai, they took out the rally towards the DC Thoubal office along National Highway 102 .
When they reached DC office complex gate, a team led by Thoubal police station 2nd OC Sudhir halted them.
Later, a six-member team representing the protestors met Thoubal DC and submitted a memorandum.
The protestors held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Government should give Rs 302 crore for material component of financial year 2021-22', 'Implement National Electronic Fund Management System in the state', 'Conduct Panchayat election at the earliest', 'Empower panchayat' and 'Release wages of job card holders by the government at the earliest' among others.
Speaking in this regard, a protestor identified as Kh Rajmohon reasoned they are only demanding the government to release the sanctioned funds meant for PRI members at the earliest.
Instead of violating the rights and wages of the people and workers, the government should actually encourage them, he added.
After meeting the DC, DPPT representative Hera-mani conveyed that the DC gave assurance on some of their demands.
The DC also shared information on certain issues not known to PRI members.
After coming to an understanding on certain grounds, the protest has been suspended, he said, while cautioning that intense protest will be launched if the assurances were not fulfilled.
