Imphal, February 23 2023:
Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation, Manipur (RNSOM) has welcomed the state-wide eviction drive against illegal land encroachers and dwellers that are popping up magically in the capital city of Imphal and along the highways.
As per a release by RNSOM Media Cell, the eviction of illegal encroachers has been a herculean task for state government in past decades with hesitancy on the part of both the politicians and the government to vacate the encroachers stalling many developmental projects and beautification works across the state, especially towns along the highways and Imphal city.
RNSOM also denounced the statements made by some organisations against the state-wide eviction drive and termed as condemnable attempt to paint the government's initiative in communal colour.
The organisation appealed to the public to cooperate and support the government's initiative to save the land and space for future generations and development and asserted that the present government's concerns and swift action to safeguard the land and rights of all the communities are laudable.
On the other-hand, endorsing the standpoint of Kuki Inpi Manipur in connection with the eviction drive carried out at K Songjang village, the Kuki People's Alliance (KPA) strongly censured the alleged inhumane and unlawful eviction drive in Churachandpur's Henglep Sub Division.
KPA general secretary WL Hangshing said that the party holds action of the present regime as ultra vires the set procedures for administrations in the hill areas of Manipur.
"It does not have the sanction of the Hill Areas Committee and is without proper procedure, whether it is the notification of the reserved forests or the order of eviction of the tribal forest dwellers," he asserted.
Vehemently condemning the alleged unlawful eviction drive at K Songjang, the KPA stated that a remedial measure is warranted for the damage caused.
