Kangpokpi, February 23 2023:
Kuki Students Organisation, Sadar Hills visited District Hospital, Kangpokpi and various other health centres in Kangpokpi district which remain closed for the past few days owing to the indefinite strike of All Manipur Health Services Doctors' Association.
The KSO team led by its president Satminthang Kipgen found all the healthcare centres in Kangpokpi, except private institutions, closed and locked while no hospital authority or staffers were seen in the government facilities.
Speaking to the media, Satminthang explained that closure of all healthcare centres in Kangpokpi owing to the indefinite strike launched by the AMHSDA prompted the team to visit the health centres to take stock of the situation as people are starting to suffer a lot.
He described as a sorry state of affairs that even people in the medical profession were compelled to resort to such extreme agitation.
The president further said that the indefinite strike has been enforced by the AMHSDA as a final course of action owing to the state government's failure to consider in cabinet meetings the demands of the doctors despite its repeated appeals and assurances.
The demands of the doctors include time-bound promotion, enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years, creation of several director posts, NPA as per 7th Pay Commission, implementation of proposed MHS Rules 2020, etc., which the state government reportedly considered legitimate, he maintained.
While highlighting the various grievances of the people owing to the closure of the hospitals and health centres, Satminthang said that the prolonged strike by the doctors will prove disastrous for the public for which the authority concerned and the state government must act to solve the issues at the earliest.
