Imphal, February 23 2023:
Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and initiating subsequent treatment of developmental disorders and deviative behaviours among children rather than hiding it.
He was speaking at the inaugural function of 2-day Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme on "Management of Childhood Disorders & Behaviour Problems" held at the conference hall of Spastic Society of Manipur, Langthabal Kunja.
National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (Divyangjan) in association with Spastic Society of Manipur organised the CRE programme to provide updated information and training to special educators who educate the differently abled persons.
The Social Welfare Director further maintained that such training programmes are highly important in view of the need of creating an inclusive society amid the rising cases of Autism (a developmental disability thereby hindering the communication ability) especially among young children.
The programme was also attended by former Mission Director, National Health Mission Dr S Manikanta and RCI-NEZCC Chief Coordinator, Laishram Tokendra Ricky who is also the secretary of Spastic Society of Manipur as the presidium members.
A total of 30 special educators are taking part in the CRE programme.
Responding to queries of the media in connection with the programme, Ng Uttam informed that a child with delayed speaking abilities and deviative behaviours can be treated at the Composite regional centre, CRC at Takyel opened under the Social Welfare Department.
He further informed that a number of institutions managed by NGOs have been opened at District level as well specially designated for the treatment of such special cases.
