ATSUM(ES) suspends blockade

Kangpokpi, August 23 2014 : Considering the promise of the State Government and in view of the problems faced by people due to the bandh in Assam's Golaghat area and the monsoon ATSUM(ES) has today decided to suspend the indefinite economic blockade for 10 days with immediate effect.

While appreciating the State Government for seriously considering the issue of the tribal with regard to Central Educational Institution (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act 2012, president of the student body Emboi Serto asserted that the economic blockade enforced on all national highways in the State has been suspended for 10 days since the state Government somehow acknowledged the tribal sentiment and moved forward with due seriousness.

"But, we will be compelled to continue the agitation with more vigor if no positive sign is forthcoming from the State Government", warned Emboi.

ATSUM(ES) also decided to suspend its agitation in view of the tremendous problems faced by the people due to the bandh in Assam's Golaghat area and the monsoon, said Serto adding that ATSUM(ES) would not compromise nor negotiate if 'our rights are being neglected' .

He further continued that the assurance of the MU authority that the order of the Academic Council will be revoked at the earliest is welcomed and ATSUM(ES) would eagerly await for the implementation of the amendment Act of 2012 .

The Act which should have been implemented during 2012-13 academic sessions has been kept in cold storage for the last two years pointed out Emboi while adding that this Act does not only cover MU but CAU, which is a Central University.

Elevating the needs to rectify the same by the authority concerned, Emboi Serto questioned whether the Registrar, who is responsible for not implementing the Amendment Act will be punished or not? Besides this issue, ATSUM (ES) also demanded the Government to look into the issue of Rules of the Manipur Reservation of Vacancies in Posts and Services (for SC/ST) Act, 1976; Recruitment of Teachers in Jiribam Sub-Division; Tribal Sub-Plan and New Land Use Policy (NLUP) in Manipur, which had been put up to the government earlier.

In the meantime, ATSUM (ES) expressed gratitude all its supporters, student unions, apex tribal bodies and volunteers for sincerely supporting our genuine issue.

ATSUM (ES) fights for the rights, which are enshrined in the Constitution.

The tribals are not beggars and will never beg in future, asserted Emboi before adding that threatening ATSUM (ES) about arrest or other means will never be tolerated.

He also said that ATSUM (ES) and MUTSU have been in police custody and today ATSUM (ES) once again reiterated that we are willing to be in jail for the cause of the tribal people.

While promoting the importance of tribals' unity and glancing for ways and means to unite for the tribal common interest ATSUM (ES) also appealed to other student bodies not to be confuse or nor be misled by element, which does not understand the tribal issues, said Emboi stating that many issued press statement, which is totally against the interest of the tribal people.
