Imphal, August 23 2014 :
At a time when people are facing shortage of fuel owing to imposition of economic blockade within the State as well as in Assam, a proscribed UG group has reportedly served a monetary demand of Rs 50 lakh to Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Chingmeirong.
Sources said the demand letter signed by finance secretary of the UG group and addressed to Choudhury, Divisional Manager, IOCL Imphal Branch was served to the office by an unknown person on August 15 at around 11.30 am.
According to the demand note, the monetary demand should be met within 15 days.
Meanwhile, a joint meeting of dealers of the 66 retail outlets (oil pumps) in the State convened at Hotel Imphal here has fervently appealed to the concerned organization to revoke the monetary demand made to IOCL.
According to a dealer who attended the meeting, there has been apprehension over the possibility of Divisional Office, IOCL at Chingmeirong shifting from the State following the huge monetary demand served to it.
If it is shifted then people will be facing shortage of fuel even more frequently.
Taking serious note of the matter, the government has been urged to take up necessary steps for ensuring adequate supply of fuel to the people otherwise a situation may arise when all the retail outlets in the State have to close down.
An earnest appeal has been also made to the concerned organization to revoke the monetary demand at the earliest considering the present acute shortage of fuel faced by the people, the dealer added.
