Family members of Laishram Ibomcha, the main accused in the murder case of Ranjita, have appealed to all concerned to find out the real culprits rather than targeting innocent people on mere suspicion.
Speaking to mediapersons, L Bina, w/o L Ibomcha, said that Ranjita was working at the field until late in the evening the day she was murdered.
She(Bina) went to the brick field in the afternoon that day.
A short while after her arrival, Ibomcha set off to Phanjangkhong to collect money from a man called Hemo.
Moments after her husband went out, Bina set off to inspect the condition of water in their field that lies next to Ranjita's.Ranjita was working in the field till about 3 pm that day, she continued.
She further mentioned that she neither heard a panicky cry nor a shout when she was working at her field during those hours.
She added thatIbomcha returned home by 7 pm that evening and at 8 pm they recieved a phone call inquiring the whereabouts of Ranjita to which they replied that she was last seen at 3 pm.
At 8 pm that night, the deceased's husband Loken came to the brick field asking for a torch, Bina added.
Hearing that the deceased had not returned, Ibomcha also joined the search.
They found the deceased lying dead at their paddy field.
Bina also rejected the news of her husband surrendering to the police, stating that such incident never happened and that Ibomcha was taken to police custody only for interrogation.
She further asserted that the police had, inorder to calm the public, forged Ibomcha guilty of murder.
Otherwise, she added, there was to evidence that proved her husband guilty of murder.
Mention may be here that both the brick field and the house that belonged to Ibomcha had been burnt down by the angered locality.
Expressing displeasure with the locals' action, Bina stated that her husband should be punished according to the law only when he is proven guilty of the charge.
With the real murderer roaming free and her innocent husband locked up for a crime he did not commit, Bina added, such incident will keep on recurring and appealed the Government to find out the real culprits.
