Imphal, August 23 2014 :
In a fresh twist to the political turmoil over leadership within Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC), party legislator Kh Joykishan on Saturday urged the Speaker to disqualify Th Shyamkumar from MLAship.
In a letter submitted to Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh, MLA Joykishan said MPTC has been recognised as a legitimate political party by All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) supremo Mamata Banerjee and the Election Commission of India (ECI) as well since it was set up.
The move for disqualifying four legislators on the charges of being MPTC members is unwanted, he said.
MLA Shyamkumar recently filed a petition against the four party MLAs pleading their disqualification under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution and relevant provisions of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
In view of the petition, Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker served show-cause notices to the four MPTC MLAs to submit their counter affidavits to defend disqualification proceedings filed against them on August 11 last.
In the petition, Shaymkumar claimed that a party called MPTC did not exist in Manipur, therefore Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykishan Singh who claimed to be MPTC president, Thongju MLA Th Bishwajit Singh, Konthoujam MLA K Sarat Singh and Wangoi MLA O Lukhoi Singh should be disqualified from being members of the state legislative assembly.
