MSPP holds protest over pending fund, poll delay

Imphal, February 22 2023:
Manipur State Panchayat Pari shad (MSPP) organised a sit-in protest at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai Panchayat Shanglen, Imphal East on Tuesday demanding the government to release pending funds and conduct elections to the PRIs at the earliest.
Earlier, the protestors planned to carry out a march from Panchayat Bhavan to the office of DC Imphal East.
However, police prevented the plan following which, the protestors gathered at Khurai Chingangbam Leikai Panchayat Shanglen.
Despite the police intervention, the protestors again attempted to take out the march but they were stopped in front of the SP's office, after which the protesters returned to the starting point and staged the sit-in.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, MSPP Imphal East district secretary Naorem Pradip said that they are simply asking the government to release the funds already released by the Centre.
A team of MSPP is also in the national capital pursuing the matter, he said and demanded the government to conduct the elections for Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) without further delay.
