Imphal, February 22 2023:
Kangleipak Kanba Lup has pointed out the acute shortage of lecturers in Government colleges across the State and called upon the relevant authorities to redress this long-pending issue.
In a statement, KKL said that a majority of Government colleges suffer from a lack of an inadequate number of teachers.
KKL pointed out irregular classes being conducted in many colleges as a result and the nonchalant attitude of the college authorities who do not address such issues prevalent in their campuses.
The statement further claimed that due to the Government's failure to officially appoint college lecturers, many 'guest lecturers' have been appointed "without the approval of the Government".
Many such guest lecturers are given a meagre sum of Rs 5000 as salary and some have been working for as long as 15 years waiting for their official regularization by the Government, KKL alleged.
These teachers cannot apply elsewhere for other jobs due to reaching the maximum age limit (age bar), the statement said.
As such, KKL has asserted that the State Government should appoint these guest lecturers and solve the current shortage of teachers plaguing Government colleges.
It also pointed out that due to lack of Government approval with regards to their employment as guest lecturers, the college authorities often exercise a 'use and throw' mindset while engaging them.
KKL has termed this a human rights violation and accused the Education Department of blatantly ignoring this obvious issue.
KKL has also suggested the Government to carry out a survey of unemployed PhD degree holders in the State and engage them for the job.
Hence KKL has urged the principals of Government colleges to consult the relevant authorities and address the issue of inadequate teaching staff in their respective colleges.
