Deal signed, Noney bandh called off

Noney, February 22 2023:
The 60 hour total bandh imposed along NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road) by Village Council Longmai Area (VCLA) and other civil societies has been called off after a joint meeting held at the Noney DC's conference hall on Wednesday afternoon.
An agreement was arrived at between the state government and the civil society organisations during the meeting chaired by Hill Areas Committee (HAC) chairman & local MLA Dinganlung Gangmei, in the presence of Dr Sasheekumar Mangang, director Health Services, Stiff Khapudang, additional deputy commissioner Noney, Madhunimai, SP Noney, and other top officials of the Health Department.
According to an agreement signed during the meeting, the government representatives assured posting of a lab technician at PHC Noney within a month, ambulance driver within March this year, that the two doctors and nurses transferred to PHC Noney and CHC Nungba will join duty within a week, provide additional ambulance to the district before the end of March and posting of more doctors and nurs es to PHC Noney and CHC Nungba before the expiry of the contract period of the current contractual staff.
As the Health Services director has given a positive response to the demands, the 60 hour bandh imposed along NH-37 was subsequently called off.
The MoU was signed by Dr Sasheekumar Mangang and Stiff Khapudang on behalf of the state government, and Adai Dangmei, chairman Village Council Longmai Area, on behalf of the Noney CSOs.
Earlier, the total band affected normal life in Long mai Bazar and its surrounding area of Noney as all shops and business establishments were closed and all types of vehicles were off the road.
However, there was no untoward incident during the short period of bandh.
Now, vehicular movement along the NH-37 has now returned to normal.
