Imphal, February 22 2023:
The Rongmei Naga Students' Organization Manipur (RNSOM) and the Thadou Inpi Manipur on Wednesday appreciated the State Government for carrying out eviction drives against encroachers on reserved/protected forests and Government land.
Notably, this came after the Forest Department carried out an eviction drive at K Songjang village in Churachandpur-Khoupum Protected Forest area on February 20 .
In a statement to the media, the Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) said it welcomes the Government's initiative to evict illegal land encroachers that are popping up "magically" inside the capital city Imphal and along the highways without any biases.
Eviction of illegal encroachers has been an herculean task for the State Government for decades and such encroachments have affected many development projects, it said.
The RNSOM also stressed that it denounces statements of some sections of organizations that gave the Statewide eviction drive against illegal land encroachers a communal tinge.
It appealed to the public to cooperate and support the Government in carrying out the eviction drives to save land and space for future generations and development.
"The present Government's concerns and quick action to safeguard the land and rights of all the communities is laudable and appreciated," said RNSOM.
While appreciating the Government, the Thadou Inpi Manipur said illegal encroachment on Government land/Reserved and Protected Forest areas is a great loss to all as it affects conservation efforts and hampers implementation of various developmental projects and schemes which are in the interest of the public.
It is a fact that no one is happy to see eviction of houses property etc.
But such steps are required for ensuring a better future.
If timely eviction of illegal encroachers from Government land is not taken up, it will become bigger issues and a burden for the State in future that may affect administration and development, said Thadou Inpi Manipur.
It appealed to all sections, communities to extend their best support and cooperation to the State Government in all its initiatives which are taken up in public interest and for a better future.
