Imphal, November 13 2022:
The government of Manipur has temporarily suspended the Free Movement Regime (FRM) along the Indo-Myanmar border for a period of three months with immediate effect.
In a notification, deputy secretary (Home) Peter Salam explained that in case of continuation of the Free Movement Regime such a practice might lead to further increase in number of illegal entry of Myanmarese nationals into India in view of the current law and order in Myanmar.
The suspension of FRM will be imposed for three months or till such time the IMB gates are formally opened by both sides for movement of people, whichever is earlier, Peter informed.
The notice also mentioned that the state government had earlier issued an order on September 15 for temporarily suspension of the FRM along Indo-Myanmar border for a period of 60 days.
