Imphal, November 13 2022:
Condemning the monopoly on chicken meat price by some chicken centres taking alleged advantage of the government's failure to fix the price, Avian House distributed dressed chicken meat free of cost to people in front of Mao Keithel, Kabow Leikai, here, on Sunday.
The protest launched by poultry fanners of Avian House was also marked by the demonstrators using placards inscribed with slogans like 'Meat vendors trying to kill poultry farmers', 'Why is government remaining silent?', 'Giveus chance to live', 'The cheapest price of chicken meat found only in Manipur', 'Is you live and we die a business policy?', etc.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Avian House owner Chongtham Durbatara explained that as chicks, their feeds and medicines are all imported from outside the state, poultry farmers are facing difficulty as price of poultry feeds has been on the rise.
While informing that an imported chick costs Rs 50, Durbatara condemned the act of some people indulging in chicken meat business drastically lowering the price of chicken meat using social media platforms amidst the difficulties being faced by many poultry farmers.
There is the need for extending cooperation among poultry farmers to survive together, or else, the state will never develop, he contended, while demanding the state government to fix price of chicken meat in the state.
A poultry farmer identified as Athokpam Mangi said that he began poultry farming with an objective to make the state self-reliant.
However, monopoly by some chicken centres by playing with the price of the meat at their own will adversely affect the poultry farmers, who are living through rearing of chicken, he contended.
