Imphal, November 13 2022:
Stating that the government of Manipur is keeping Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) for namesake only, student bodies of the state have demanded the government to make the status of the varsity clear within 7 days from Sunday, failing which intense agitations would be launched.
Addressing a press meet held at KSA's office near Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal, here, on Sunday, one of the student leaders said that DMU is still under the Higher and Technical Education Department and as such, should be bifurcated at the earliest.
He then cautioned of launching intense agitation if the bifurcation process is not initiated within 7 days.
The student leader pointed out that DMU was established in 2017 under the Dhanamanjuri University Act, but it is yet to be recognised as a full-fledged university by UGC.
As the university has not received the 12B status from UGC, it is unable to get benefits for various projects and infrastructural developmental.
Such pathetic situation is due to the varsity not getting bifurcated from Higher and Technical Education Department till date, he reiterated, adding that this has further caused concerns among the students studying in the varsity.
Thus, the student bodies will be submitting a memorandum in this regard to the government and the authority concerned, the student leader informed, while demanding a clear update on the bifurcation process within 7 days.
He also demanded declaration of the result of the recruitment drive conducted for Assistant Professors for PG course at DMU.
