Imphal, November 13 2022:
Expressing serious concern over the ongoing black-topping of Watham Leirak road in Thangmeiband AC in a hasty and war-footing manner, residents on both flanks of the road have urged all concerned particularly the contractors to black-top the road properly with quality control.
Not only for Thangmeiband residents, Watham Leirak road is as an important connectivity for entire people of the state as it leads to important institutions located in Lamphel area but the road remains dotted with huge potholes and causes inconvenience to commuters for the past many years.
Commuters face immense difficulty in travelling along the road throughout the year as it is filled with water due to large potholes during rainy season and dustiness in dry season.
Local MLA Kh Joykisan had repeatedly raised his voice in the state assembly for developing the road since the past many years and the road development process started with the instruction of chief minister N Biren after Kh Joykisan joined the ruling party.
However, those taking up the road development work are trying to black-top the road in a hasty manner without constructing drain or laying WBM and this indeed is very unfortunate, some concerned residents told this daily.
The ongoing black-topping of Watham Leirak road will not last long and it is impossible to repair the road every year in view of poor financial position of the state, the residents said and urged contractors concerned to develop the road with quality control so that it could last long.
If the road is developed in a hasty manner, it will be washed away in a single spell of heavy rain, they said, while pointing out that heavy trucks are plying on the road daily.
They also drew immediate attention of the works minister and the local MLA so that necessary action is taken up.
