Thoubal, November 13 2022:
All Manipur Muslim Development Committee (AMMDC) and Anti-Social Preventive Organisation (ASPO) have condemned alleged police brutality on woman street vendor Apabi (47) of Lilong Mairenkhul and demanded the government to punish the involved police personnel.
Speaking to media persons, AMMDC president Pusham Sayeed Ahamad and ASPO information and publicity secretary Ismejan recounted that Apabi was confronted by two unknown women around 3:30 pm on November 9 at Imoinu Galli accusing her of picking up their money bag and demanded it to be returned.
Apabi denied the allegation but was taken to City police station by a policeman, where she was brutally beaten and threatened by police, asking her to confess the crime, they said.
AMMDC and ASPO strongly condemned the high-handedness of the police and questioned why the government has taken no action on the matter.
They further warned that if the government does not arrest the perpetrators within 24 hours, then they will resort to democratic form of agitation with support from club, CSOs and meira paibi organisations.
