Imphal, July 15 2021:
The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) has submitted a memorandum to Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Dr RK Ranjan to put more focus on Act East Policy and improve Educational Institutions in North East India.
A press release issued by AIM said that the ambitious Act East Policy aims at promoting economic, strategic and cultural relations with the Asia-Pacific region at different levels.
Saying that memorandum seeks reinforcement of the "Act East Policy" by opening formal border gates between Myanmar and India at New Tusom, Huishu, Konkan Thana, Namlee, Kambang Khullen, Nongkam Satang, Molcham, Bihang, etc, AIMS added that opening the border gates will strengthen the cultural ties with the neighbouring country.
AIMS also urged to set up consulate general offices with cultural centres in North East India for countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, China, etc., to strengthen the Act East Policy; establish a Southeast Asian University to tighten the trans-boundary relationships with Southeast Asian countries and develop a New Central University in North East India to study east Asian countries' language, culture, tradition, geopolitics, international relations, etc.
The memorandum also sought improvement of educational institutes in North East India, conversion of Dhanamanjuri University to a Central University, construction of quarters and hostels in the remote areas of Manipur for the teachers and staffs and up-gradation of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Regional Campus Manipur (IGNTU-RCM) into a full-fledged Central University.
It also opined that establishment of Burmese language high schools in North East India and incorporation of East Asian languages in the primary school curriculum in North East India, particularly Burmese, Korean, Thailand, Japanese, etc., before the train connects North East India with Myanmar is also crucial.
AIMS also urged to establish Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in North East India; upgrade the IBSD campus in Harorou; open a biotechnology department in the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur, Manipur Technical University (MTU) and develop Cane and Bamboo Education and Research Institute in North East India.
