Imphal, July 15 2021:
Ex-MLA RK Anand has drawn attention of the PHE minister to the urgent need for making functional the water supply schemes and water reservoirs in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency to provide water supply connection to the people of the constituency.
The ex-MLA along with members of Coordinating Committee of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC visited water supply schemes at Chingtham Leikai, Keish-am Leikai and Konjeng Leikai areas on Thursday.
Interacting with the media during his visit, RK Anand said that during his 10 years' tenure as MLA of the constituency, he took up several water supply schemes and constructed around 10 water reservoirs out of which some reservoirs were commissioned.
He also laid pipelines for providing water supply to several unreached areas as well as included several projects in the government work programmes.
All those projects and schemes are for the welfare of the people of the constituency, he said while urging the PHE minister to complete construction of those incomplete projects and make functional the defunct schemes at the earliest.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is targeting to provide tap water connection to every household by the end of 2022 but majority of the people in the constituency are not getting tap water connection.
As a result, the public are forced to spend additional amount in buying water from private water tankers while many are using pond water resulting in infection from water borne diseases.
The water supply scheme located between Haobam Marak Ngangom Leikai and Keisham Leikai is providing more water to Keishamthong AC than Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC, he said while urging the authority concerned to look into the matter.
