Imphal, July 15 2021:
Co-operative weaving societies, have drawn the attention of the State Government to implement Integrated Cooperative Development Project within this month.
A press conference in this regard was jointly organised by 7 cooperative weaving societies today at the office of the Renu Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited at Mercy Lane, Mantripukhri.
Speaking at the occasion, the secretary of Renu Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited, Renu Aramabam stated that National Cooperative Development Corporation has been launching a range of important schemes and ICDP is one of it.
ICDP scheme which provides security to co-operative societies including handloom and handicrafts is well implemented in other States but despite assurances and submission of relevant documents by weavers, the scheme remains unimplemented.
Renu further stated that, in recognition of the women weavers and the contributions in the field of handloom and handicrafts, the Prime Minister awarded NCDC National Excellence Award to Renu Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited and instructed the State to implement ICDP scheme.
With this, implementation of the ICDP scheme, which was not feasible for implementation in the State earlier, was approved by NCDC in 2018 and a related fund for 6 districts was also subsequently released, she said.
For the implementation of ICDP scheme, the State Government has to be the guarantor, she said while adding that relevant documents required for implementation of the scheme were submitted to State's Cooperation Department.
Inspite of this, the scheme continues to remain elusive in the State, she lamented.
Handloom products by State weavers has set its mark in the world market and has been contributing well to the State's economy and as such the scheme which will be empowering these women weavers should be implemented at the earliest, said Renu while drawing the attention of the Chief Minister.
Members of Renu Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited, Model Weavers Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited, Khunyai Weaving Cooperative Society Limited, Karam Awang Leikai Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited, Phouoibi Handloom & Handicrafts Cooperative Society Limited, Khabam Maning Leikai Weaving Cooperative Society Limited and Nongada Ayangleima Cooperative Society Limited also attended the press conference.
