Pregnant woman, new mom honoured

Chandel district administration and District Health Society on Thursday honoured two women on becoming first amongst the pregnant women and lactating mothers in Chandel district to get vaccinated against Covid-19 .
The first pregnant woman to receive vaccination in Chandel district is one Th Tuberose of New Khongjon village and the first among the lactating mother to be inoculated against the infectious disease is District Hospital Chandel medical officer (MO) Dr Zingpi Tarao of Liwa Changning village.
A team of district administration and District Health Society visited Th Tuberose at her residence on Thursday, while deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar and chief medical officer Dr Serthani Serbum met Dr Zingpi Tarao at DC Chandel office and presented both of them with cash rewards, certificates of appreciation and gifts.
The programme was also attended by additional deputy commissioner Kshetrimayum Siddarth, district immunisation officer Dr Luxmi, district surveillance officer Dr Shakchung, SDO Chandel N Pritam, SDO Chakpikarong Ch Somorendro, SDO Khengjoi L Herojit and others.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Rajkumar informed that as soon as the central government allowed vaccination of pregnant women and lactating mothers, both these women got themselves vaccinated.
The district administration and District Health Society after finding their record as the first to take the vaccines decided to honour them with an aim to encourage other women to follow in their footsteps, he stated.
Th Tuberose said that though she is nearing her due date, she took the vaccine on July 6.She did not face any issues after taking the vaccine and she would encourage other pregnant women to also get vaccinated against Covid-19, Tuberose affirmed.
