CPI discusses Covid deaths, issues besieging state

CPI Manipur State Council convened a meeting and discussed the high fatality rate of Covid-19 pandemic in the state on Thursday.
Chaired by CPI national executive member Dr M Nara, the meeting was attended by party's state secretary Laishram Sotinkumar, assistant secretary M Joykumar Luwang, spokesperson RK Amusana and Imphal West district secretary Meghachandra among others.
The meeting discussed why the state is facing high fatality rate in the pandemic and resolved to press the government to form a committed committee for tackling the pandemic effectively.
The meeting expressed the party's support to the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 and instructed its local councils to extend support in the vaccination programmes as well as in testing exercises taken up in their respective areas.
The meeting also discussed the irregularities in distribution of NFSA and PMGKAY rice amid the pandemic and resolved to press the chief minister to streamline the process and ensure that the benefits of PMGKAY which have been extended till November this year reach the targeted population quickly and transparently.
Thursday's meeting also discussed the precarious situation besieging the farmers and shortfalls in the agriculture sector laid bare by lack of rainfall, and resolved to press the government to make swift and necessary arrangement for providing irrigation facility in 'drought' hit areas.
It also decried the recent order of the government on animal slaughtering in relation with Eid festival while terming it as communal.
The meeting then resolved to press the government to take up necessary steps to ensure safe celebration of the festival while observing Covid relevant protocols.
