Senapati cops seize drugs worth Rs 100 cr

Senapati, July 15 2021:
A team of Senapati district police seized a huge quantity of drugs worth several crore of rupees in the international market on Wednesday.
The district police team was reportedly led by additional SP (NH) ML Kaisungbou, Senapati police station OC LL Tezii and sub-inspector B Rangdou Marcel.
The team was on a normal frisking and checking operation at Hengbung, near TCP along NH-2, on July 14 around 8 pm when they stopped and searched a truck (WB-65B-9503).During the search, a huge consignment of illegal drugs suspected to be WY tablets and methamphetamine (ice drugs) was seized from the possession of the truck driver.
According to sources, a kilogram of ice drug costs Rs 2 crore to Rs 10 crore and each WY tablet costs Rs 500 in international market.
Thus, the monetary value of the total seized drugs could be more than Rs 100 crore.
Briefing media persons, SP Senapati M Pradip Singh informed that 50 packets containing 9975 tablets and 15 packets of suspected methamphetamine (ice drugs) were found concealed inside the truck.
The driver of the truck was later identified as Md Azad Khan (21), s/o Md Oli of Lilong Ushoipokpi in Thoubal district.
The driver of the truck has been detained and a case under NDPS registered at the Senapati police station.
An FIR has also been registered against the truck driver.
Chief minister N Biren lauded the big haul of drugs in the district and expressed that the seizure will give a boost to the government's war on drugs.
