Imphal, September 21 2022:
The 24-hour Manipur bandh called by the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) against the forceful signing Of Merger Agreement on September 21, 1949 has affected normal life in the state, particularly in the valley areas on Wednesday.
On this day in 1949, the erstwhile Maharaja of Manipur signed an agreement allegedly under duress for merging the then kingdom with India.
Imphal City wore a deserted look due to the bandh call as schools, colleges and petrol pumps remained closed.
Business establishments in Khwairambandh Keithel, Paona and Thangal markets were all shut.
Only a few passenger and private vehicles were seen plying on the roads.
In addition to it, local shops were closed.
Manipur police took up precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the bandh, which was largely peaceful.
Reports said that inter-district and inter-state public transportation came to halt.
The impact of the bandh was less in the hill areas of the state.
