RIMS nurses stage sit-in over gun threat

Condemning the gun threat to a nurse on duty by a patient party at RIMS Casualty, RIMS Nurses' Association ceased work for the day and staged a sit-in protest in front of Casualty Block, here, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the sidelines, Association president Tongbram Sunita Chanu informed that the incident occurred at around 8pm on Tuesday.
A complaint report has been filed at Lamphel PS in this regard and the alleged gunman has been arrested, as per reports.
Demanding to revoke the gun license of the person involved immediately, she said that as the person identified himself as a contractor for RIMS, RIMS authority should blacklist the individual.
In addition, an inquiry into the incident will be carried out and as such, the nurses will continue the agitation until a definite solution to the matter is presented, she stated.
Meanwhile, responding to questions from newspersons on the sidelines of a programme held at RIMS, Institute's director Dr A Santa strongly condemned the incident and informed that CCTV cameras have been installed in most parts of the hospital, which will help identify any wrongdoers.
He then appealed to all concerned not to repeat such acts in future, while adding that a complaint has been filed at Lamphel PS in this regard.
On the other hand, Teachers' and Medical Officers' Association (TAMOA) strongly condemned the manner in which the health service providers in Casualty, RIMS Hospital were intimidated by a patient party with a sidearm on Tuesday evening.
In a statement released by its secretary Dr Ng Arunkumar Singh, the Association said that the occurrence of such violence in the state is unfortunate, especially when the medical community across the country has been appealing to all for making hospitals a violence free zone.
As such, TAMOA appealed to all concerned to make RIMS violence free and book the culprit under "The Manipur Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2015 .
