Anti-drug drive reaping fruit: Ex-corporator

Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Ward No 26 former corporator Maibon Phaomei has said that the anti-drug drive in IMC Ward No.26 is progressing smoothly and about to completely uproot drugs from localities covered by the ward consequently raising hope of making the state free from drugs.
Distribution of free LPG connection under Ujjwala scheme to 60 beneficiaries of Ward No 26 held on Wednesday at the Namdulong residence of Maibon.
Addressing the gathering, he said that residents of Namdulong have been supporting 'War on Drug' initiated by chief minister N Biren to make the state free from drugs.
Accordingly, women folks of the ward along with local clubs conducted intensive drive against drugs and the drive yielded result as drug usage in the ward has significantly reduced, he said, adding that the anti-drug drive in the ward will continue until reaching the set goal.
Regarding distribution of free LPG connection, Maibon Phaomei said that his tenure as IMC Ward No.26 corporator ended months back but never gave up efforts to provide free LPG connection to more genuine beneficiaries of IMC Ward No 26.As such he distributed free LPG connection to 60 beneficiaries of the ward on Wednesday.
He also claimed to have provided more than 300 LPG connections to genuine beneficiaries of the ward and that majority of the beneficiaries were poorest of the poor.
