CPI-M Manipur organises rally against price hike

Imphal, September 21 2022:
CPI-M Manipur unit organised a protest rally against price hike from near MDU hall, Yaiskul Police Lane till the bust of Hijam Irawat installed at Yaiskul on Wednesday.
Interacting with media in this regard, CPI-M state secretary Kshetrimayum Shanta said that the rally was part of nationwide protest against price hike.
It also coincides with the day Hijam Irawat went underground for his revolt against the formation of Purvanchal Pradesh by uniting the northeast states in 1948.The nationwide protest was part of the decision of the party to carry out protests against price hike, GST on food items, implementation of urban employment scheme, and increasing work days under MGNREGS to 200 per year among other demands, from September 14 to 24 across the country, he said.
Shanta also highlighted the demands of CPI which include enhancing wages of job card holders to Rs 600 per day, reducing tax on petroleum products, providing minimum support price to farmers, women's rights for minority, Dalit and tribal communities, filling up vacant posts in government offices, withdrawal of policy to privatise education sector, and stopping misuse of central government agencies like ED, CBI and NIA to further their political gain among others.
Maintaining that the protest is for the welfare and security of the common people, he sought public support to the cause and the movements.
CPI-M secretariat members Sarat Salam, Nongmaithem Thoiba, Asem Binodini, Manipur Loumee Lup leaders Thounaojam Sarat, Yumnam Ratan, Yumlembam Nabachandra, CITU leader Kshetrimayum Sopen, and All Manipur Democratic Women's Association secretary A Ashabala led the rally and offered floral tributes at the bust of Hijam Irawat.
