Addressing media persons on Wednesday, Kh Palin said that the aged patient from Myanmar decided to conduct the surgery at Shija instead of hospitals in developed countries of South Asia and this indeed is a proud moment for the hospital as well as for the state.
He said that the patient from Myanmar came to Shija hospital on September 12 and bilateral knee replacement surgery on the patient was conducted on September 16 by a team of doctors led by consultant orthopaedic surgeon Dr Iboyaima Phuritsabam.
The surgery took three hours and the patient is now able to move and stand alone and would be discharged after a week, he said.
According to Kh Palin, the cost of knee replacement surgery at Shija is very cheap compared to hospitals in Bangkok and Singapore in South Asia.
